Ahoy Mates,
Shiver me timbers! Is it ever going to get warm?
There is a lot of hype out there about the gas prices.
Last year, I spent $200.00 on fuel. This year I anticipate spending $240-$280 in fuel. I will not give up boating for $40-$80 a summer. Will you? I hope not.
Tips to help you save:
- Buy fuel only at stations that sell a lot to ensure fresher fuel. (May reduce your maintenance costs).
- Stabilizing your fuel as a running application will prevent carburetor gum up. (May reduce your maintenance costs).
- Running your engine at wide open throttle (WOT) unnecessarily will increase fuel usage.
- Always buy Mid-grade to Premium fuel (it is more expensive but will keep your engine running better longer).
- Upgrade your old two stroke carbureted engine for a new fuel efficent Evinrude E-Tec or Mercury 4 Stroke.
- Anchor at the sand bar, and enjoy a cold beverage of your choice (if alcohol, drink responsibly).
Make sure your boat is ready for the water.
- Make sure your boats registration is current.
- Make sure your boat has an unexpired working fire extinguisher.
- Your boat must have a sounding device (horn, whistle) that can be heard at least a mile away.
- Make sure your vessel has a throwable cushion or life ring on board and accessible (not under a seat).
- An approved life jacket for every passenger on the vessel.
- Working lights for night time boating (aft and bow, port and starboard).
- Verify your drain plug is in and tight.
- Verify all of your fluids are full and clean.
For all of your maintenance needs, please make an appointment with us today and beat the rush, it won't be long and we will all be on the water.
